CAMP RULES
Our desire is to enforce rules through relationship, using the camp environment as a training ground for godly living. Every time a student makes a poor choice at camp, it requires a response from Kansas Summer Camp staff or a KSC adult leader.
GENERAL RULES
RESPECT LEADERS
Students are responsible for honoring camp staff and adult leaders by following directions immediately, leading by example for their cabin-mates.
LANGUAGE
Students will demonstrate respect through appropriate language, avoiding profanity, slurs, or degradation.
BEHAVIOR TOWARDS OTHERS
Bullying, hazing, or "pranks" that demean others will not be tolerated.
ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES
Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, nicotine, or vapes are strictly prohibited on camp grounds.
WEAPONS
No weapons of any kind (including pocket knives and lighters).
STEALING
Stealing of any kind will not be tolerated. If a camper is caught stealing, they will be subject to immediate discipline.
DRESS CODE
Students must follow the KSC dress code.
PROPERTY
Respect the camp facility, dorms, and the natural environment.
PARTICIPATION
Campers are expected to be at all scheduled activities (meals, chapel, team rec, small groups). No "wandering" off—stay with your assigned group or leader.
RELATIONSHIPS
No public displays of affection (PDA). This includes: brief hugs, sitting on laps, kissing, arms around shoulders or waists, etc. Under no circumstances are girls allowed in guys' cabins, or guys allowed in girls' cabins.
BE PRESENT
Limit bathroom breaks during Chapel/Teaching sessions to emergencies only (one student at a time).
CELL PHONES
Are allowed at camp. All campers must abide by the cell phone policy.
VIOLENCE
Violence of any kind results in immediate review.
CONSEQUENCES & RECONCILIATION
CONSEQUENCES MAY INCLUDE...
Verbal warning from a cabin leader or KSC staff, meeting with the Camp Director/Student Ministry Pastor, a phone call home to parents, or immediate dismissal (being sent home from camp at the parents' expense)
THE ABC'S FOR RECONCILIATION
Affirm: Remind the student we are glad they are at camp.
Behavior: Clearly explain why the behavior doesn't fit the camp community.
Consequence: Provide the correction needed to restore the relationship.
CAMP DRESS CODE
OUR VISION IS TO INSTILL VALUE AND WORTH WHILE ENSURING CLOTHING IS FUNCTIONAL FOR HIGH-ENERGY CAMP ACTIVITIES.
WHAT TO AVOID
Clothing with explicit words, images, or symbols; shorts with an inseam less than 3 inches; undergarments showing; plunging necklines; exposed midriffs.
SWIMWEAR
Girls: One-piece suits or tankinis. (Pro-tip: You can wear a dark tank top over a bikini!)
Guys: Shirts stay on unless at the pool/lake; no speedos.
If swimwear is deemed inappropriate, a non-white t-shirt and shorts must be worn over it.
NOTE: DRESS CODE MUST MATCH BIOLOGICAL GENDER. IF A STUDENT IS STRUGGLING WITH GENDER DYSPHORIA, PLEASE CONNECT WITH THE STUDENT MINISTRY PASTOR PRIOR TO THE START OF CAMP.
CELL PHONE POLICY
AT KANSAS SUMMER CAMP, WE BELIEVE IN USING TECHNOLOGY RESPONSIBLY WHILE PRIORITIZING THE RELATIONSHIPS AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH THAT HAPPEN IN PERSON.
PERMITTED USAGE
Cell phones are allowed at camp and may be used during the following designated times:
Free Time: During afternoon recreation or downtime.
Game Time: When authorized by leaders for specific camp activities.
Quiet Times: For personal devotionals, music, or contacting home (within reason).
RESTRICTED TIMES
To ensure everyone is fully engaged, cell phones are strictly prohibited during:
Large Group/Chapel: No phones during the teaching, worship, or speaking portions.
Small Group Time: Phones must be put away to respect the discussion and your peers.
CONTENT STANDARDS
While cell phones are permitted during designated times, users must adhere to the following content guidelines:
Appropriate Viewing: Campers may only view or share content that is respectful and appropriate for a Christian camp environment.
Strict Prohibitions: Accessing, possessing, or sharing content that contains profanity, violence, sexually explicit material, or discriminatory themes is strictly prohibited.
Social Media Integrity: We encourage campers to post positively. Any use of social media to bully, mock, or demean fellow campers or staff will result in immediate disciplinary action.
ACCOUNTABILITY & CONSEQUENCES
Usage of a cell phone is a privilege, not a right. If a student is unable to abide by these rules, or if the device becomes a distraction to the student or others:
Confiscation: The phone will be taken away by a staff member or adult leader.
Storage: The device will be held in a secure location (e.g., with the Camp Director).
Return: The device will be returned at the end of the day or the end of camp, depending
on the severity of the distraction.
NOTE: KSC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED ELECTRONIC DEVICES. WE ENCOURAGE CAMPERS TO KEEP THEIR PHONES IN THEIR CABINS DURING HIGH-ENERGY ACTIVITIES.
